Nokia – the official Nokia brand is finally back in the smartphone game or should we say in the mobile phone business with HMD Global who now owns the right to use the brand has finally announced its first smartphone device the Nokia 6. Just before you start jumping around and make a sound, we just want you to know that unfortunately for the rest of the world, the debuting handset will only be available in China, much like the Nokia N1 did when it entered the market. But nevertheless, it’s good to know that Nokia is finally back in the game and what we could only hope for now is that HMD will unleash the much awaited premium handset that everyone is looking out for with the Nokia brand name stamped on it.

The Nokia 6 isn’t something so big from HMD Global to bragged about either as it turns out that their first smartphone under their management is a typical mid-ranger or should we say something between an entry-level and a mid-ranger handset. The Nokia 6 is crafted using a single block of 6000 series aluminum and has a metallic unibody design.

It comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p display with a 2.5D Corning Gorilla sheet on top. Under the hood is rather underwhelming but not that bad for a start, it has a Snapdragon 430 running the show with 8-cores processor of Cortex-A53’s plus an Adreno 505 GPU paired to a 4 GB of RAM. Just as everybody have hoped for, the Nokia 6 is powered by no other than Android 7.0 Nougat

For imaging, the handset comes with a single 16 Megapixel main camera with an f/2.0 Aperture. It has a Phase Detection AF and comes with an LED flash. It only takes 1080p videos so don’t expect something more than that because the CPU isn’t capable to do that. On the front there’s an 8 MP snapper with an f/2.0 Aperture, good for Selfies and eventually for high-res video calls.

HMD Global is yet to spill more about the Nokia 6 in the next few days or weeks but like we’ve said earlier, the handset will be a China exclusive with JD.com which is expected to launch early this year. Its retail price is expected at 1,699 CNY or roughly $245 before duties and taxes.
