HMD Global has yet to announced their upcoming device besides the trio that were unveiled at earlier this year being the Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 and last year’s Nokia 6. Though it’s still quite confusing as to what model name this mysterious device is but experts suggest that this could be the Nokia 8 or Nokia 9.

Before it becomes officially announced, FrAndroid got the opportunity to handle Nokia’s next device but was partially shown of due to the fact that the handset was encased with a protective case which prevented us to examine the design of the handset. Nevertheless, it provided us a glimpse on what to expect with the handset as it was able to show somehow what ports and buttons are available for such an anticipated device.

You’ll find a USB-C type port at the bottom something that has been a default for the all new Nokia handsets and there’s the persistence of a 3.5mm jack which somehow faded of interest on some other manufacturers. The screen on the device is said to include a QHD display with a 5.3-inch viewing angle and comes with a 530nits of maximum brightness. Further with the display feature, it includes an Always On feature which shows relevant information on the screen such as time, date or newly arrived texts and missed calls while on idle, this works similar with other devices such as the latest Samsung flagships for example. Volume rocker and the power buttons sits at home on the right side of the handset.

The alleged Nokia 8 or Nokia 9 device boots Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) out of the box and promised a pure Android experience with a little touch of signature Nokia styling through a custom Nokia blue theme which is quite evident with the sets of icons that Nokia has all over. There’s a Home button on the front which is also expected to house a fingerprint sensor.  Under the hood is a powerhouse which is made up of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage space.

The most noticeable feature on the handset is the presence of a dual camera module on the back of the device. This one right here though doesn’t come with a Carl-Zeiss insignia are rumors suggested in the past but one could expect various camera options for the camera app which provides an enjoyable shooting experience. As for the dual camera setup, the device features a set of 13 Megapixel monochrome sensor and an RGB one. It also comes with a dual-LED flash and a seemingly Laser-AF windows next to it.

Photos taken from the device doesn’t seem to live to the promise that Nokia intends to make with its future device but bear in mind though that these images are taken from a prototype device and maybe optimize with a consumer product. What Nokia seem to present here however are the features that their camera app has and what options are available for users. For now, try to enjoy these photos below, though they really don’t look awful, but it require all the needed tweaks to make use of that dual camera module on the back.

The photo is expected to be announced toward the second half of the year and is expected to become available for users in time for the holiday season. Well it live up with our expectation? we can’t say that for now but where Nokia is heading seems to foreshadow the future ahead and it looks really promising. But about the price however, given a seemingly flagship status, it will also be having a flagship pricing, we’re looking at somewhere $700-$800 for the device and knowing that it isn’t cheap, we hope Nokia delivers what they have always promised.
