It doesn’t surprise us to see manufacturers from venturing to other platforms. While it is expected that smartphone makers such as LG would eventually get into the Windows arena but what surprises us though is how they are offering their Windows 8.1 powered device.
The handset is called the LG Lancet and is currently offered exclusively at Verizon wireless in the states. While this device is going stateside, potential users are now wondering if LG could also open this up to other markets and that’s what we are awaiting to hear.
From the hardware point of view, you won’t get any stunning specs and in fact the new LG Lancet sits pretty nicely in the lower-end segment which is rather a more practical move from the smartphone maker to gain feedbacks of platform and that to see if there are any considerable market to stay with Windows.
As a low-end handset as it is, the LG Lancet features a 4.5-inch LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 854, it is powered by a Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC running at 1.2 GHz with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of expandable memory that supports up to 128 GB microSDXC cards. It comes with an 8 Megapixel main camera with a VGA camera on the front and 2100 mAh battery that promises up to 18.5 hours of talk time or 420 hours of standby time.
On the software front, The LG Lancet runs Windows Phone 8.1 OS with Update 2 with LG’s proprietary features such as the KnockOn feature and a Soft Light and Gesture shot for the camera. Though the handset runs on the latest Windows Phone OS in the market, it’s still early to suggest that the handset would be eligible for an upgrade to Windows 10 but given the flexibility of the upcoming OS, the LG Lancet may as well get the taste of Microsoft’s highly anticipated operating system update which will due out later this year.
As for now, the LG Lancet is currently available for Pre-order from Verizon which will then become available for purchase on the 21st of May and will take advantage of Verizons high-bandwidth LTE connections on a 2-year contract with $19.99 a month or go prepaid with $120 for the handset alone.
