Most users of today are well acquainted with touchscreen smartphones, while few of us have been into different form factors since the dawn of the mobile phone. One important and popular form factor from the early days is the flip phone and in fact this type of phones still exists today here in asia and some other parts of the world, that’s why few mobile phone manufacturer such as Samsung and LG are re-introducing the form factor and updated them full smartphone functionality to bring out a new breed of smart flip phones. LG has already out its first flip smartphone with LG Wine Smart in September last year and now the Korean manufacturer is ready to follow-up the handset with the new LG Ice Cream Smart flip smartphone.

From the basics, the LG Ice Cream Smart is a flip smartphone with a 3.5-inch capacitive touch screen display with a 320 x 480 resolutions. It also comes with a full set of numeric keys and buttons with special operations such as the dedicated buttons for the camera, messaging, KakaoTalk and navigation controls. The handset is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC with 1.2 GHz Quad-core processor, a 1 Gb of RAM and 8 Gb of expandable storage. The handset comes with an 8-Megapixel main camera and a standard VGA (0.3 Megapixel) camera on the front.

The Ice Cream Smart features LTE connectivity in addition to HSPA+ and 3G wireless network support. Other connectivity features includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0, FM Radio and DMB-TV support which is one unique feature of the smartphone.

The handset measures 118.6 x 59.4 x 16.9 mm and weighs 138 grams. It runs on a 1700 mAh removable battery and operates on Android 4.4 (KitKat). Though some users prefer the traditional smartphone form factor, there are those who are still fond of the flip phones or clamshell phones as they call it. The new LG Ice Cream Smart flip smartphone is targeted towards the die-hard flip phone fans that wants to have a full smartphone features on their device. Unfortunately, the handset will only be available in South Korea without any plans of introducing that handset outside of the country.
