Asus has been quite successful with its Zenfone line of smartphones and to further give users access into affordable devices, the OEM launches the new Zenfone C – its entry-level handset. Launched yesterday in Malaysia, the new Zenfone C is designed to replace the year old Zenfone 4. It has almost everything that the Zenfone 4 used to be in and out but with more notable improvements.
From the design perspective, the new Zenfone C retains the Zenfone 4’s design but with a larger 4.5-inch IPS display with resolutions at 480 x 854 with 5-point multi-touch support and anti-fingerprint coating. Under the hood, there’s an Intel Atom Z2520 processor running at 1.2 GHz along with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of expandable storage. For users requiring more storage space, the new Zenfone C supports micro-SD cards of up to 64 GB with an exclusive 5 GB free lifetime cloud storage courtesy of Asus WebStorage and an additional 11 GB for the first year of activation.
The handset supports HSPA+ and 3G wireless network connectivity as well as support for 2G/EDGE on GSM networks. Other connectivity features includes Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0, GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS support.
For the mobile imaging, the new Zenfone C is fairly equipped with basic cameras wherein the main camera is a 5-Megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture coupled with a single LED flash to assist in low-light conditions and on the front is a standard VGA camera with 0.3 Megapixel in quality that is good enough for basic self-portraits and video calls.
With Zenfone C, the battery has been improved to a higher capacity at 2100 mAh as compared to the Zenfone 4’s 1600 mAh and still removable and user replaceable. At 149 grams, the new Zenfone C measures 136.5 x 67 x 10.9 mm. It runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) with Asus ZenUI on top. The handset will be available next month and users will be able to choose between Black, White and Red color options. Asus posted a standard retail price of RM 349 or roughly $97.00 with 1 year local warranty. After the handset’s launch in Malaysia one could expect to have the new Zenfone C available in other regions as well in a week or so.
